Episode 2: Multiculturalism, Migration, and Logics of Detention, with Hashmat Najib

In this episode, I speak with Hashmat Najib, a passionate advocate with migrant youth in Melbourne. Hashmat was born in Afghanistan and migrated to Australia as a teenager. He now works at a global architecture company. Hashmat co-hosts the podcast, ‘Amplifying Afghan voices in the West, one conversation at a time’ which explores the social issues impacting the community in Australia and beyond. As someone with the lived experience of finding refuge, Hashmat is driven to advocate for disadvantaged young people in Australia. As a member of the Committee of Management for CultureSpring, Hashmat has dedicated much of his professional and advocacy work to positively impact the lives of youth from migrant and refugee communities in Australia.
