Episode 1: The Ongoing Legacies of Displacement and Detention with Zaki Haidari

In our first episode, I speak with Zaki Haidari, Refugee Rights Campaigner and Advocate with Amnesty International in Australia. Zaki was recognised as an Australian Human Rights Commission Human Rights Hero in 2020 and NSW International Student of the Year in 2015. He has also completed a Diploma in Computing and a Diploma in Graphic Design. Zaki was born in Afghanistan, but was forced to flee the country at the age of 17,  coming to Australia to seek protection. His work as a refugee rights advocate has contributed to a number of achievements including the abolishment of temporary protection visas in favor of permanent residency for approximately 19,000 people, many of whom had stories similar to Zaki’s.
